Stone Attributes:
From the Greek root, petro, meaning "wood turned to stone," petrified wood forms when all organic material within a tree or tree-link plant is replaced with minerals, such as quartz. Buried under volcanic ash or sediment, petrification begins when the organic material of the wood is preserved due to lack of oxygen. When waters wash over it, minerals are then deposited in the plant cells, converting the organic material into stone as those cells slowly decay. The end result is a beautiful "stone" fossil. The brilliant colors in petrified wood occur as a result of the different varieties of minerals present in the water during the petrification process, creating unique pieces. Considered a grounding, yet energizing, stone, petrified wood is said to be aligned with the root chakra, facilitating a greater connection with and respect for the earth. Thought to work with the third-eye chakra in improving meditation and discernment, promoting patience and harmony, it is believed to be a powerful healer.
Turquoise is known as "the friendship stone." It is also considered a "healing" stone. Additionally, it is reputed to help with creativity and peace of mind. Hematite is thought to help with balance -- both physical and mental. It is also said to enhance personal magnetism and optimism!
